Legal AI: from source checks to an auditable draft
Fluent answers are not sufficient for legal research. Check the question, source identity, passage, date and connection to the file before progressing to a draft.
Build a traceable workflow
An apparently convincing answer does not establish that its legal sources are real, accurate or applicable to your situation. Use AI as an assisting layer between questions, sources, file documents and drafts. Human review, professional responsibility and appropriate expert judgement remain necessary for a final external document.
Define the question first
Jurisdiction, dispute type, event dates and the precise issue can change a result. Split a broad question into several verifiable questions. Record missing information instead of filling it with assumptions. A research output and a final legal assessment serve different purposes.
Apply four checks to each source
- Identity: does the document or decision exist, with the correct title and institution?
- Passage: does the source actually support the proposition in the answer?
- Date: have timing, currency and subsequent changes been evaluated?
- Applicability: do the source's facts and conditions correspond to the file?
Our BlueJustifAI introduction shows a workflow from a research question to checking source passages, organizing documents and preparing a draft. A source match is not a guarantee of applicability, accuracy or litigation outcome. Compare important conclusions, dates and quotations with primary sources.
Control the scope of uploaded documents
Identify necessary information before uploading a document. Do not transfer personal or confidential data you are not authorized to use. Check team access, retention and service providers in current product documentation. A demonstration screen does not authorize the processing of a client file.
Distinguish evidence from interpretation
A draft should keep verified facts, source statements and your interpretation traceable. Do not present uncertain information as settled. Preserve source identity and relevant passages, then reassess how changed documents or research affect the draft. A useful workflow can explain the basis for a statement later.
Before export or sharing
- Compare names, institutions, file references and dates with documents.
- Verify that quotations come from the actual cited source.
- Submit current rules and factual applicability to appropriate expert review.
- Resolve remaining assumptions and incomplete fields.
- Check recipient, format and sharing authority.
