Business email DNS records: MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC
In this article (4)
Your domain needs several DNS records to receive email and help prevent outgoing messages from being considered forged. Domain-specific values are listed in the dashboard.
Where can I see the records?
- In the customer dashboard, open My Services and select your email service.
- Email tab contains the DNS records section with each record's type, name and value. Live status appears next to each: OK, Missing, Different value or Could not read. After adding records, use Check again to refresh the status.
- The mail server name is also shown in the Access tab, under Mail server.
Records to add
| Type | Name | Value | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| MX | @ | Mail server name (priority 10) | Routes incoming mail to our server. Required. |
| TXT | @ | v=spf1 mx ~all | SPF: prevents outgoing mail from being considered forged. Required. |
| TXT | The …._domainkey name shown in the dashboard | DKIM value shown in the dashboard | DKIM: verifies email signatures. Required. |
| TXT | _dmarc | v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:admin@alanadiniz | DMARC: reports forged messages. Recommended. |
| CNAME | autodiscover | Mail server name | Automatic setup in Outlook and phones. Optional. |
| CNAME | autoconfig | Mail server name | Automatic setup in Thunderbird. Optional. |
If your domain already has an SPF record, edit it rather than adding another. Multiple SPF records on one domain cause problems.
Adding the records
Add records where your domain's nameservers (NS) are hosted:
- If DNS is on Cloudflare: Connect your Cloudflare account to add records automatically. Only missing records are added; existing records remain unchanged. An existing record with a different value, such as another provider's MX record, is not replaced; the dashboard shows Different value and you decide whether to change it. We do not store the authorization you provide.
- If your domain uses TeknoWeb hosting nameservers: Add the records in your hosting panel's DNS editor or ask our team through a support ticket.
- Otherwise: Manually add the values shown in the dashboard to your DNS provider's management page. For .tr domains, DNS records are managed at the service their nameservers point to.
DNS propagation takes time; a newly added record may not immediately appear correct in the dashboard.
Checking before purchase
When you select a domain during ordering, its MX, SPF and DMARC records are checked and its current email service is shown. Unreadable records do not prevent the purchase.
Once you change the MX record, new messages start going to the new server. If moving from another service, first read email migration.
