Upgrading a VPS plan

When your server resources become insufficient, upgrade to a higher plan from the dashboard. Your data is preserved.

Rules

  • Upgrades must stay within the same architecture: ARM to a higher ARM plan, x86 to a higher x86 plan.
  • VPS plans cannot be downgraded because the disk cannot be shrunk.
  • Switching between ARM and x86 requires a new order and migrating your data to the new server, not an upgrade.
  • Upgrades are available only for active services.

Steps

  1. In the customer dashboard, open My Services and select your server.
  2. Upgrade: select one of the eligible upgrade plans.
  3. Confirm your choice. An invoice for the difference over your remaining term is created.
  4. Pay the invoice for the difference.

What happens after payment?

  1. Your server is powered off for a few minutes.
  2. It is moved to the new plan's resources.
  3. It starts again. Data on the disk is preserved.

What changes with an upgrade?

CPU cores, memory and disk space increase to the chosen plan's values. The operating system, installed software and files remain unchanged; no reinstallation is needed.

How do you know you need an upgrade?

On your server, use htop or free -h to monitor CPU and memory usage, and df -h to check disk usage. If memory stays full, disk space is nearly exhausted or CPU usage is high for long periods, consider a higher plan.

Because a short interruption is expected, upgrade when your website or application is least busy. As a precaution, take a snapshot first; see snapshots and daily backups.
